This strategy is quite similar to what the original Designers created that brought tremendous prosperity to Crisfield, and it begins with establishing a means to generate traffic, then building the ‘New Crisfield’ around it. In the 1860’s it was the train that gave Crisfield the means to generate traffic, in the 2020’s it should be a major-tourist attraction.
Some of the objectives have been addressed in the previous sections, but to reiterate, the ultimate objective of this strategy is to create economic conditions that will enable Crisfield’s ambitious youth to return after college, and have all future generations grow up knowing that there are career and business opportunities so the cycle of poverty ceases.
Now, to achieve this will require building an entirely ‘New Crisfield,’ where every weekend will be like the Clam Bake (4000+ Tourist Units), and each weekday resembling the Soft Shell Festival (1000 Tourist Units). The Designers knew that for Crisfield to prosper everything had to be done on a large-scale, and when this ceased, it began an economic decline, and is the reason why you’re reading this report right now. Make no mistake, we must do the same as the Designers did. If we don’t, the youth will keep leaving, and within a few generations, our descendants won’t have a hometown.
Everything proposed hereafter are steps to build a New Crisfield.
